Janssen

Jules Janssen (1824 – 1907) è stato un infaticabile scienziato francese, al quale si deve la conferma che la Luna non ha atmosfera. A più di 70 anni scalò più volte il Monte Bianco per costruire l’osservatorio che porta il suo nome, per molti anni il più alto del mondo (4.810 m s.l.m.).

(ENG) Jules Janssen (1824 – 1907) was a tireless French scientist, to whom we due the confirmation that the Moon has no atmosphere. Aged more than 70, he climbed several times the Mount Blanc to build the Janssen observatory, which has been for many years the highest in the world (4.810 m asl).

Il grande, vecchio cratere Janssen e il suo sistema di rime, ripresi qui vicino al terminatore. In basso a sinistra, a ridosso del bordo dell’immagine, è parzialmente visibile l’enorme solco della Valles Rheita (all’incirca parallela al lato verticale dell’immagine).
